The club is delighted to announce our new coaching co-ordinator for 2018 Paul Heselwood. Paul is a multiple Ironman finisher and in 2013 finished 8th in the Slovenia double ultra (double iron distance) World Cup race.

As a coach he is on the BTF High Performance Coaching Programme, a Sports Science graduate, professional member of the British Association of Sports and Exercise Scientists (BASES) and a Chartered Institute for the Management of Sports and Physical Activity (CIMSPA) Practitioner in Exercise and Fitness. * Turbo training is only available between November and March.

 

Swimming

Please note that as of January 2017 you will have to pay the club for all coached swim sessions at Newmarket Leisure Centre (the club is paying for the hire of the pools directly) so please DO NOT pay at reception, just show them your club membership card and tell them you are there for our coached swim session. NLC swim memberships will NOT be valid for our sessions. If you swim outside our session times you will need to pay NLC in the usual manner.

Payment options (members only – Monthly May 2018)

Poolside Payments

The cost for paying poolside is £4 for members and £6 for non members, however we would prefer it if you paid online so that the coaches don’t have to worry about keeping cash by the pool and can concentrate on the session instead!

Swim Coaching – Update

We are very pleased to confirm a block of swim coaching for members has been agreed into the New Year – with the intention this can develop into a long term, comprehensive provision.

Who?

Tom Lowther is an experienced swim coach from Ely. He has also been riding out with us on Saturday mornings for the last couple of years.

What?

Coached swim sessions on Tuesday evening 7pm and Friday morning 6am at Newmarket Leisure Centre. Sessions complement what Kerry is doing, they are structured and will provide swimmers with a lot of feedback to improve technique etc.

When?

A block of 6 weeks starting this Tuesday 5th December for three weeks until Friday 22nd December. Resuming for a further 3 weeks in New Year starting on Tuesday 2nd January to Friday 19th January 2018. One Tuesday will not be attended (date to be confirmed) due to an existing personal commitment.

How Much?

We are looking closely at costs and charging but these sessions are at our standard rates until further notice. Please pay poolside (£4/session for members) or the monthly fee (£15) for January – this is under review and likely to change for payments from February onwards.

What Next?

This initial block is to ensure coaches, swimmers and Club are happy with the approach and it gels with existing arrangements. This is a great boost to get the coaching off the ground again and gives time to discuss the demand and best way of providing this in the future.

Running Coaching – T.B.A

These sessions are currently being developed – more information will be available shortly.

Strength & Conditioning

These sessions are currently available during the autumn and winter months. Our qualified coach Tim Wilson of Alpha Fitness takes these sessions on Monday evenings at 7pm at the Leisure Centre.

Pay as you go is £5.00 a session, but could I ask a big favour could people make sure you have the correct money as Tim does not carry any money on his person when he is teaching.

If anyone who has not come yet will need to fill a Health & Liability Waiver in, so you are turning up, please turn up 5-10 min early.

Turbo Sessions

These sessions will be taken by our cycling coach Emma and will involve cadence drills, intervals as well as strength drills. These sessions are suitable for ALL abilities. Don’t forget to bring a drink!

Sessions are on Wednesday 7:00pm to 8:00pm. Meet at the Newmarket Racing Centre (promptly please).

Coached turbo sessions are currently free.
