Established in 1934, we have over 100 members of all ages and abilities, from novices to elite athletes who represent the UK at world class amateur level. Based in Newmarket, Suffolk, we organise club trips throughout the year to places like Derbyshire, the South Downs and Aldeburgh, with social, club and sporting rides every Saturday. We have a time trial calendar in the Spring / Summer months and have a very well-regarded triathlon and duathlon event in early Spring. We have coached swimming, running, strength and conditioning, as well as turbo training sessions with our qualified coaches.
About Our Membership
Our club is all about you the members, taking part, getting better and having fun. We have over 100 experienced and novice athletes of all ages and abilities. Some have represented the UK and many more compete in a variety of local and national events.
We really do enjoy seeing our members progress and develop against their personal goals. However, a basic level of competence and fitness must exist in order for us to provide events and coaching sessions that are safe and effective. If you have never exercised, ridden a bike or swum before, then we are very happy to introduce you to other local coaches and clubs to help you reach that basic level of competence and fitness.
Senior membership is open to anyone over 18 years of age. Junior membership is free for those under 18; our under 16 junior members must be accompanied and supervised by a parent or guardian.
If you have any queries please contact our Membership Secretary.
Our offer to you
We want to help you to reach your goals in your sport and have fun on the way. Whether it is cycling, running, swimming, triathlon, or ironman we can:
- Connect you with our members and fellow athletes in the Newmarket area
- Help and encourage you to develop, train and reach your goals through our tailored coaching sessions
- Give you opportunities to compete, including advance notice of events
- Give you the right to wear our smart and updated Endura NC&TC kit, plus other kit items
- Connect you with the governing and local bodies we are affiliated with
With all this, we think that our membership fee represents incredible value for money.
Coaching and support
We are very fortunate to have experienced and qualified coaches who lead our weekly swimming, running and strength and conditioning sessions that will help you improve. We also have weekly coached turbo training sessions during the Winter months. Our members are a great source of encouragement; there is almost certainly someone who has struggled with exactly the same point of technique, strength or endurance as you and they are always there to help.
A great Club spirit
We have a vibrant Facebook community for our members and those interested in triathlon and cycling. Throughout the year, our weekly training sessions and Saturday social, club and sporting rides are a great chance to get to know our other club members. On our cycling rides we also love visiting some great local places for coffee, tea and cake! Our Spring weekend cycling trip is a firm favourite; in previous years we have visited Derbyshire and the South Downs.
There are a variety of local and national events throughout the year that we take part in and where possible compete together. We have a number of informal socials nights during the year and our annual awards dinner is where prizes are handed out to recognise the achievements of our members.
What we expect from our members
We think membership is a two-way street and, therefore, we expect our members to act responsibly, think about their own and others’ safety, support our club and promote our sport.
Before joining us, we ask you to agree to:
Take responsibility for your fitness. Training and competition are physically and mentally demanding; good preparation is vital for enjoyment and success. If in doubt, please seek professional advice.
Take responsibility for your conduct at all times. You are expected to act in the best interests of our club and with consideration and responsibility towards other members and the public at all times, especially when training with, or representing NC&TC.
Help make our club events a success. We ask that all our members take turns to help out at our Spring triathlon and duathlon. These are well-regarded and well-attended events, but they need the support of our members to succeed. We also have other opportunities to support the club and fellow members during our weekly time trials and at other occasional events.
Whilst not a condition of our membership, we do ask you to consider joining British Cycling and/or the British Triathlon Federation; our club is affiliated to these governing bodies. They set the standards, host the events and help promote the sports we participate in. Membership of these is a great way to support your sport and carries its own benefits, including insurance cover whilst you train and compete.
